![]() January 20, 2000 It looks like we finally have our reverse DNS problems solved. What this means is that you should now be able to download the 128bit encrypted version of Netscape or Internet Explorer. If you encounter any problems, PLEASE let me know immediately. January 3, 2000 Congratulations on surviving Y2K. Traknet would like to wish everyone a healthy, prosperous, Happy New Year. January 3, 2000 Our servers encountered NO problems due to Y2K. I decided to reboot this morning just to be safe. However, one problem that has popped up because of Y2K is a problem with older versions of Netscape. If you are using a version prior to v4.06 your browser may not be Y2K compliant. You will know this when you browse to the Traknet Home page. A popup window will display (only if your browser is not y2k compliant). The only fix for this is to upgrade your browser to a newer version. November 17, 1999 Part of the reason we had to upgrade the mail server was because many people have decided to leave their email on OUR server rather than keep it on theirs. In the past, this was not a problem until our hard drives were full (which was happening on a regular basis). During the upgrade, we decided to implement a 10megabyte size limit on individual emails and on the max amount of space used by that mailbox. If you haven't received any email since the upgrade or are being told that email being sent to you is getting bounced due to mailbox size limits, then you will need to clean out your mailbox ON OUR SYSTEM. If you need help in figuring out how to do this, please go to http://www/traknet.com/faq.html. You will find detailed instructions on how to clean out your mailbox. November 8, 1999 We are tentatively planning on taking the system down on Thursday, November 11th for mail server upgrade. Plan on Traknet being unavailable that evening for approximately 2-4hours. November 2, 1999 Since the email server has been giving us problems, we have decided to upgrade our equipment. A new, dedicated email server will be put into service sometime in the next 1-2weeks. We will try to minimize our downtime. Unfortunately there is no GOOD time to be down. So, if you encounter problems over the next couple weeks, most likely it is due to upgrading. September 3, 1999 The email server caused files to get corrupt. The server was down from approximately 9:30am -11am while we made repairs. Sometime in the very near future. I will be taking the system down for approximately 4-6 hours while we upgrade the hard drives. This should fix the disk corruption problems we've been experiencing. I will be updating this info and send everyone an email, when I know exactly when I will be taking the system down August 10, 1999 Our Bell Atlantic internet connection (T1 line) was intermittently up and down this morning. Bell Atlantic is aware of the problem and is in the process of testing/repairing the lines. They will be intermittently up and down until they find the problem. August 3, 1999 The email server caused files to get corrupt. The server was down from approximately 10pm -1am while we made repairs. July 6, 1999 We are having temporary internet problems possibly due to the storm. Our equipment is working properly, the link to the internet is where the problem is. We/they are working on the problem and should have it fixed soon. Symptoms are: you can connect to Traknet, surf ANY Traknet web page, you just can't get any web page outside of Traknet. July 4 & 5, 1999 The system was down for approximately 6 hours Saturday 7/3-7/4 due to a power outage because of the electrical storms. June 21, 1999 The mail server crashed Sunday afternoon for a couple hours. The problem is fixed.Any problems, please email or call. May 24, 1999 Expect outages over the next week as we make the change over to our new IP scheme ranging from a few minutes to 2 or 3 hours. May 13, 1999 We have been informed that our UPSTREAM provider is going to be changing things around. What this means is that Traknet will no longer have use of the 207.198.10.xxx IP numbering scheme. Our new numbering scheme will be 12.27.90.xxx. For residential customers, this will not have any affect. However, for Business customers this will. We have the next two weeks to make the necessary changes. So, in the next two weeks, Traknet may be unavailable from time to time. I will inform you as those down times get nearer. May 7, 1999 Due to some accounting difficulties, we will be changing ONLY the MONTHLY billed customers to a single billing date of the 15th of the month. April 9, 1999 The mail server crashed and took some .dll's (library files) with it. It took about 3 hours for the system to rebuild itself. The hard drive that the mail server is run from is going bad and will be replaced in the next few days. March 31, 1999 VIRUS ALERT!!! Be on the lookout for the "Melissa" virus. It shows up in the form of an email with the subject of something similar to IMPORTANT - OPEN IMMEDIATELY. You cannot get the virus by simply receiving or opening the email. It will have a MS Word DOC file attached to the email. If you open the word document then you will activate the virus. It will not harm your computer...it simply looks at your address book (Outlook 97 or 98) and emails everyone in your address list itself many times. If you use MS Word, you can also combat this virus via MS Word. In the menu option TOOLS/OPTIONS there is a GENERAL tab and a checkbox for MACRO VIRUS warnings. If that box is checked, and you do open the word document, you will not activate the virus unless you tell it to activate. February 1, 1999 The email server has been giving us problems with "not responding" errors due to low RAM. We have more on order and should be upgrading it in the next couple days. January 21, 1999 Sometime in the near future, we will be upgrading our email software to the latest version. This will mean we will have to take the server offline for approximately 4hours. Please check back here for more details. January 21, 1999 I've replaced a complete bank of modems (24 of them). Connection problems should be gone. January 14, 1999 We are experiencing problems with the modems attached to 233-1515. If you need to get online, you can always use our alternate # 233-1500 until the problem is fixed. I will be replacing modems attached to that line over the next few days, so if you are having problems getting connected or are being disconnected, it is me changing modems. December 22, 1998 Traknet now offers 2 gaming servers for our customer. Quake2 and Half-Life. YOu will need to have either of these games on your system in order to play them on ours. We'd also like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah from all of us at Traknet. And remember, on New Years, if you drink, don't drive. December 8, 1998 The past 2 weeks Traknet's mail server has been experiencing problems. Slowness and not responding have been the symptoms. It turns out that one of our customers was receiving the same message (300K) over and over from a friends mail server. I have contacted the sending mail server administrator and I believe we have the problem corrected. If anyone encounters email (or any other) problems, please contact me immediately. November 30, 1998 We are experiencing a SLOWNESS with the internet today due to our uplink provider to the internet having problems with some equipment. They are aware of the problem and are working to correct it and return normal browsing speeds. November 10, 1998 One of our Routers that accepts incoming calls is having problems. We are working with the manufacturer to correct the problem and/or replace the unit. Users have been reporting; can't connect, system says your password is wrong, DNS errors (server not found) and a Microsoft error stating that "your network Winsock is not compatible with ours" October 21, 1998 Traknet was down this morning from approximately 10am - 1pm due to a hard drive failure. October 14, 1998 Traknet is proud to announce 2 upgrades. We have increased the number of lines to accommodate additional callers and we have upgraded our 56k hardware to v.90. This means that if you have a 56k modem (KFlex or X2) you will be able to connect at speeds higher than 33.6k. We will also be getting rid of the 446-2626 dial up access number. Here are the procedures for changing your system to dial out to Traknet using the new phone number. Windows 95 users click here and Windows 3.x users click here. October 2, 1998 Well, the phone company informs me that due to the storm in early September, some underground cabling or circuitry has failed and is the cause of the problems we are currently experiencing. Busy signals, slow/poor connections are the symptoms. They are working to resolve the problem(s) ASAP.
