President's Report 2000 - A New Decade - A New Call for Volunteers
This is our annual call for membership. Each year we send out to all alumni, current students, and parent(s) of students, subway alumni and other interested parties this winter Newsletter. The primary purpose of the Newsletter is to solicit dues for the upcoming year. Our dues are reasonable and serve a basic purpose; we want to use the funds to assist local students who attend Notre Dame.
The other basic purpose is to solicit volunteers for our many on-going projects. A year ago I asked for more of you to come forward and volunteer for our projects. The response was good but more help is needed. I know this sounds like a lecture. Believe me it is not. Ask those who currently volunteer how fun it is to help out. There were over sixty (60) people for our game watch this year. It was a fun time and I wish more of you were there to enjoy it. We had a great turn out for the Chorale in January and that was a super event.
Currently, as I write this, Phil Kelley, '50 needs volunteers for our ND FIRST program. Soon, Sharon McAuliffe '74 will need volunteers to assist her with our Summer Service student program. Our annual Golf tournament which raises funds to support two local students with a $1000 scholarship will need volunteers to organize, sponsors to help funding and members to come play. This year, in April we will host our first ever Hesburgh lecture. Jim Bonaventura '78 is coordinating this and needs help. The Newsletter is always looking for people willing to help with its timely publication by writing articles and assisting in the mailing, please help. The 'bottom line' is we need active members who want to volunteer.
Enclosed with this Newsletter, is the 2000 membership application and a return envelope to mail it back. Please take the time to complete the application, attach your dues, volunteer for an activity and then be ready to serve when called. I assure you it will be a rewarding time and a fun time.
The year 2000 will be a special one. It is the start of a new decade. Start the new decade off by volunteering for one of our activities. Become a member; become involved. John View' 74 Club President
Regional Elections - Get Out The Vote Election Special! Our own Jim Bonaventura '74 is running for the Alumni Association Board of Directors seat for Region 18.
Many of you know Jim, some may not. Jim is a former President of the club, member of our executive board and currently serves as Club Treasurer. Please, get out the vote. This is a national election and he needs our support as well as the support of any of your classmates around the country. Look for your ballot from the Alumni Office within the next few weeks.
Central New York Club Hosts Notre Dame Chorale
On Sunday, January 9, 2000 our club hosted the young men and women of the University's Chorale group. The Chorale was in Syracuse to perform a concert as part of their winter tour concert series. The group was comprised of 48 students of the university who stayed with club families who volunteered to host them.
